Basketball tourney is 'positive energy'

The familiar bounce of the ball on the pavement and the accompanying cheers resounded Saturday at S.W. Lincoln and Munson for the fifth annual Tennessee Town Basketball Tournament.

The free tournament, taking place on the Kings Court basketball court, is held by Community First, the Tennessee Town NIA and Faith Temple Church.

The one-day, single-elimination tournament had 16 teams with four playing divisions — elementary, middle school, men’s and women’s.

Arturo Lassiter, marketing coordinator for Community First and tournament director, estimated more than 400 people were playing or watching the games.

Five years ago Community First received a grant from the Weed and Seed program to put on an event for the community.

“We wanted to do an event that we could do annually to support the innercity kids who don’t have the opportunity to play organized tournaments that they have to pay to get in,” Lassiter said. “We wanted to do something that was free to let them know that Community First is community first.”

Every year the tournament has grown, Lassiter said, and organizers already are planning on next year’s being even bigger.

“It would be my hope to have courts side by side so we can have more games,” Lassiter said. “We’ve got more things planned that we are going to do.”

At the start of the tournament, a prayer was said and the rules were explained.

“We wanted to make sure that everyone had their attitudes in check and make sure that they knew we have a lot of youth out here and to be respectful,” Lassiter said. “Everybody needs to be respected.”

One of the youths competing in the tournament was 16-year-old Justus Freeland. Freeland has participated for the past five years and looks forward to it every summer.

“It’s the whole neighborhood coming together and having a good time,” he said. “Try to keep down the arguing and just have fun playing basketball.”

Freeland volunteers to get the tournament set up and helps make sure everyone has water, saying this year is better than in years past.

“All the other times it’s been over a hundred degrees,” Freeland said. “This feels like air conditioning right now.”

Freeland plays on the men’s team and points out that the paint on the outdoor court is a bit more slippery than an indoor court.

“You have to have good balance when you come out here,” Freeland said. “They get aggressive.

I need online free game recommendations? | My Marijuana Meds

Hello, I’m looking for a game I could play. I’m a bit picky though and I think I’ve tried almost all the games that fit my tastes and yet I want to try something new. I’ve searched online for lists of games but I couldn’t seem to find any more appealing ones.Maybe you have some recommendations? If you know several, lets hear them all since chances are, I’ve played most of what you’ll suggest. I apologize if I sounded arrogant, but really, I’ve played a lot of games… Now, requirements for the game:

- Must be an ONLINE game. Browser based or download doesn’t matter. - PVP is only an option! I detest PVP, hate me for it if you must but I loathe PVP and rarely you’ll see a game without it, however some games managed to make a compromise where players, if their settings are correct, can’t be attacked/cannot attack, or there are certain PVP areas/servers/realms and such. No open PVP where you can unknowingly waltz in and get killed please. -Decent graphics. I like it when the character’s arms don’t de-attach when they’re not supposed to, or when you can tell what that thing over there is, so sue me. :\ Colors are nice too. Vomit green is somehow very overused in those… lesser games… err.. runescape I think? I haven’t really played it in years and it doesn’t attract me, so please no runescape. - pet systems are fun. Would be nice if they had it. Not a major requirement though.

Well, I think that covers most of it. And here’s a small list of what I’ve been playing recently or remember playing some time ago, so if you have any suggestions, check the list to make sure it’s not there:

Battle of the Immortals, Shaiya, Perfect World(international), Jade dynasty, DigimonBattle, MonsterForestOnline, Luna online, fiesta, trickster online, fairyland, Gekkeiju (*cringes at the last two mentioned*) , Earth Eternal, Silk Road, Conquer online, Asda story… these are just from the top of my head, I’m sure I’ve played more but can’t remember… oh well. Any suggestions people? If you do suggest would be nice if you told why you’re suggesting the game, what are it’s appeals and such but you don’t have to, just dropping a name will do too. Well, a common game that meets your requirements would be MapleStory? A bit anime-cartoonish though.
