New owners inject fun, family feel at Bronson Speedway

Bronson - Chris Young had been married to his wife, Ann, 30, and probably should have known better when he started to joke with her last August on what to do next with their lives.

Ann Young, who met her husband while they were both involved with NASCAR, typed the "race tracks for sale" words in Google.

What emerged was the high bank track Bronson, so she called her husband in the garage, where he worked on a race car, and jokingly told her she knew what they were going to do next: buy their own track.

"He turned around and returned to the garage, but I timed him," Ann Young said Friday. "It was back in eight minutes and now we are here, one year later, at the track."

The Youngs, who live in Long Island, NY, and runs up and down the Atlantic coast, closed on the property on February 9 and began to focus on what Ann Young said is the vision of the couple.

"We want to keep short track Saturday night, the hometown of the grass roots of racing," she said. "I can count on one hand the number of Saturday night our family was not on a track ."

The purchase of a track that has been around for about 40 years and has been through several owners and managers meant that Young had to find a way to back the fans and race teams who may have had negative experiences in the past.

The Young plan to focus on the race as a family activity for both spectators and participants.

Among those with long associations with the track are JW Bronson McNeal, owner of Tuffy Auto Service Center in Jonesville, and Gene Owen, a former University of Florida Police Department commander and a pilot semi-pro race car Newberry.

The two men ran to Bronson and son who both have got a lot of experience there.

Now both men have pledged to spend their Saturday night on the circuit Bronson again because of the atmosphere to create the Young working there.

"This is the type of track that will bring fans back to competition - an affordable place to provide a family with great enthusiasm on the track," said McNeal.

Owen said that Young, who have experience as pilots, owners, officials and nearly all other aspects of the race, the riders understand why spend so much time and money to participate.

"For the driver, it is all about the adrenaline rush. There is no other reason we do this, "said Owen." I tried to stop several times, but I race because I love it.
