Station gives voice to gospel

Freddie Williams was a challenge before him.

Change is nothing new to the station, said Sarah Johnson, CEO of Northstar Broadcasting, which owns the station and WRSV-FM Soul 92 Jams. She and her husband, Charles Johnson, bought the stations in 1988, but the AM station has existed at least since 1934. Then he was detained by the Wynn family and began to Greenville.

In addition to this new format, the station has other major changes ahead, said Williams, who serves as the only regular engineer and DJ. In one month, he hopes to start broadcasting on the Internet and have an application so that people can listen to it on Android phones. The station has not its own website, however.

Johnson said she welcomes the change and it could open new avenues to attract a rage range of listeners.

"It can move into the future with some of the old technologies and some new technologies that can touch people, no matter what tool they use or the device they use," said said Johnson.

In an effort to become a station representing local interests, Williams is also looking for pastors and ministries who want to make 15-minute weekly broadcast on faith or community related topics. It offers a free month of segments to let people try the train station and get a feel for it. After that, rates vary from $ 25 to $ 200 depending on the duration and the frequency with which people want to talk.
