What's Wrong With Celebrating Sobriety By Getting Drunk?
We just came home from the Soundgarden concert, and it was awesome. The opening act, The Mars Volta, was weak sauce and not our cup of tea. (If they're classified as progressive rock, I'll take regressive rock, thank you very much.) The place was packed and temperatures skyrocketed as soon Soundgarden took the stage. They instantly made us forget that they'd split up over a decade ago, with fan favorites like "Black Hole Sun," "Jesus Christ Pose," "Outshined," "Rusty Cage," "Spoonman" and plenty more. Whoever said grunge was dead is sorely mistaken. The thousands of fans in attendance can attest to that! We just came home from the Soundgarden concert, and it was awesome. Grunge is dead. We tried to keep it alive for a while, because we really really liked Kurt Cobain -- and it felt like the right thing to do. Oh, well. Now Seattle's music scene is trending toward folk rock and roots music. (seattlepi.com file photo) 8.

The following years, though, proved tumultuous for Lane, who left the band several times as their fortunes faded and album sales dried up in the wake of the rise of the darker, more aggressive grunge rock sound. He rejoined the band in 2008,

For our money, in its 14-year run 120 was the ultimate ongoing documentary of the grunge era. We Gen-Xers remember staying up late to gawk at a bleached blonde Thom Yorke or to watch Nada Surf videos. Excited about its new life, we got nostalgic about
Verdict Though conducting some of the same interviews and rehashing some material from Greg Prato's recent Grunge Is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music, Yarm finds enough new interviewees and stories to make this book an essential complement

Honestly, there’s no genre in particular that I want to become popular. All I want to become popular are bands that don’t all sound the same, are willing to experiment, have more intelligent lyrics, and (most importantly) don’t sound dull and lifeless like the radio-friendly crap that passes for rock. In fact, if we lived in a perfect world, it wouldn’t be just one or two genres that became popular, it would be several. I want a variety. I’d also like pop musicians to stop using autotune. Pop music used to be a lot better. And sure, there are some good pop artists these days, but for every one good pop artist there are twenty crappy ones that you can’t differentiate between.
BQ: Honestly, I have no clue. Third Wave Emo is slowly dying out with a few bands from that genre still remaining in the mainstream (i.e. Panic at the Disco and My Chemical Romance). Then there’s these lifeless Post-Grunge bands that all sound the same because apparently that genre will never evolve (although there are a few good Post-Grunge bands, most of them formed when the genre started). I think autotuned dance pop will just become more popular until everyone finally realizes it’s terrible, and then they’ll make good dance pop again. It seems we’re stuck in a weird transitional period where nothing is really that good, and nothing is really terrible. It’s almost as if music has been growing up, and right now it’s in puberty.
As for yours… True grunge is dead. All we’re left with now is Post-Grunge. As for Ska (I think you mean Ska Punk like Sublime, Reel Big Fish, or Less Than Jake), good luck. Especially since Sublime’s new singer could never replace Brad Knowle. A lot of true fans are refusing to buy that album. If anything they’re going to pirate it, but many don’t even want to do that. It’s like a bad sequel to an amazing movie. As for Indie… I’m not sure if you actually read my answers on your questions, but Indie has been popular for a very long time. Since it started gaining popularity in the mid/late 80′s, it’s never been right in the public’s face, nor has it ever gone away for a while. It’s not trendy, and it doesn’t go out of style. It’s like a good pair of jeans and a regular t-shirt. It’s not the most fashionable thing around, but it will never be out of fashion. And when it comes to New Wave, dream on. I love New Wave too, but I don’t see it making a huge comeback anytime soon unless one of the few good pop artists out there decides to incorporate more New Wave into some of their upcoming releases.
