Clayton A prove a knockout success as club repeat 2005 title triumph

Clayton A were the winners of the Four-a-Side Knockout Handicap , sponsored by Kolorco (Printers), beating Wyke in a fantastic final at Spen Victoria on Sunday.

The competition – played in a different format this year – has been a huge success, with 32 teams taking part.

It proved to be a long day, with 16 teams competing over nine hours, through wind, rain and shine. The best two teams on the day made it to the final, and what a thrilling final it was.

There was little between the teams throughout the match.

The first over the line was Graham Raey for the village team, who was a 31-22 winner over Peter Page. Wyke replied with a win for Bob Wilkinson over Paul Gill, winning 31-25, putting Clayton ahead by three chalks.

When Nigel Breadley won 31-25 over Neil Tordoff, Clayton were on the brink of victory. It was left to Paul Kaye to score the 23 points needed for Clayton, as they celebrated winning the title for the first time since 2005. League president Barry Durrans made the presentation and thanked the venues used this year and all the teams taking part for helping to make the competition a resounding success.
